Release, Reframe, Refocus, and Respond: A Reflective Supervision/Consultation Model

This presentation will first review reflective practice as a way of managing the emotional impacts of professional work with infants, young children, and their caregivers.  It will then introduce a model of Reflective Supervision/Consultation called “The 4 R’s” which are Release, Reframe, Refocus, and Respond (Harrison, 2016). The presenter will review each iterative process and offer examples of how each looks in Reflective Supervision/Consultation practice in the field.

Dr. Harrison is an Infant Mental Health consultant.  She has been providing infant mental health informed Reflective Consultation to professionals in child welfare, child care, and other early childhood fields for over 15 years.  She has also done research and has published and presented on Reflective Supervision/Consultation locally and nationally.  In her other role, she is the Associate Director of Infant Mental Health and Reflective Practice at the Center for Early Education and Development (CEED) at the University of Minnesota.
